Product Review: Joah Beauty K-Beauty Cosmetics

8:30 AM

This is one of the prettiest boxes I've opened. I'm loving the design, it reminds me of Moroccan tile. The purple and gold is just beautiful and shines when the sun hits it. I'm already in love and I don't even know who JOAH Beauty is yet. I found out that JOAH Beauty is a brand inspired by K-Beauty and exclusively sold at CVS Pharmacy. JOAH translates to 'I like it' in Korean. They've taken cues from traditional KBeauty brands in their the packaging and formulas.

Thank you to Influenster for giving me the opportunity to try out this new brand. Let's take a look inside the box.

There are four products included in this box: dewy foundation, blush & bronzer palette, matte liquid lipstick and a face primer. Let's start.....

This product seriously looks like a dupe of the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Blur Primer, even down to the gold sparkles in the primer. I was so excited, I immediately pumped the primer onto my hand to see if the formula was the same. It isn't - it's slightly different. Primers are usually pretty thick, but this one was a bit more liquidy than I expected. When I applied it all over my face, it absorbed pretty quickly. Even without foundation on, I loved how the product sat on my skin. It made my skin look so much smoother and it had a nice glow from the gold sparkles. I applied a matte foundation on top, which pretty much covered all the glow from the primer. My foundation did sit on my skin a bit better and looked much smoother than usual. I tried the primer again and applied JOAH Beauty's dewy foundation on top. Whoa, it turned the glow factor up! I personally don't like the dewy/glowy look, so it was a bit much for me. I'm overall very happy with this primer and it's a great dupe for the YSL Blur Primer and it costs 5x less!

This palette first caught my eye when I opened the box. I love the pop of purple in the middle - it's very unique. However, when I went to swatch the blush and bronzer, the powder was very grainy and the color payoff was pretty weak (see swatch below). I was hoping the purple would be a little more noticeable. The blush is very light and was honestly not very noticeable. You can barely see the swatch. The bronzer had the best color payoff, but still very light in my opinion. I'm pretty disappointed since this palette is gorgeous. I had higher expectations and it was overall a let down.

I usually switch between matte foundations and dewy foundations = it really depends on the season. For winter, I prefer dewy foundations because my skin tends to be dry, whereas, during the the summer, I prefer matte foundations because my skin tends to be oily. When I swatched this foundation on the back of my hand, I immediately noticed that the shade was lighter than me. Though the shade wasn't perfect, the formula did feel nice. The coverage was medium to full, which can sometimes feel very heavy on the skin, but this formula was pretty weightless. It was easy to blend as well - whether I use my fingers or a foundation brush. I really like this foundation and I'm hoping they have my shade when I go to CVS later this week!

Wat-A-Matte Matte Liquid Lipstick in Dragon Punch - $6.99

I LOVE matte lipsticks, so I was excited to see this in the box. The formula itself is very creamy and long lasting - I ate and drank with this lipstick on and it stayed on throughout the day. Color payoff is amazing too - it is exactly what you would expect. The color is a beautiful deep purple, but it's just slightly too deep for me. I wouldn't wear it by itself. Instead, I mix it with other lipsticks I have to create a darker color. In the picture below, I actually mixed Wat-a-matte with Fenty Beauty's Mattemoiselle lipstick to get this gorgeous berry color.

Overall, I really like this brand. The foundation shade and the blush/bronzer palette were misses for me, but the glow primer and the matte lipstick are amazing! I'll definitely be trying more products from the JOAH Beauty line. I actually have my eye on the setting powder. Potential Christmas gift to myself!
