Beauty Battle: Laneige Lip Mask vs Kiehl's Buttermask + $50 Dinner & Movie Giveaway (Ended)

8:30 AM

I've been searching for the perfect lip mask. My lips get extremely dry during the winter and I was hoping this would be the first winter my lips stay smooth and hydrated! I took advantage of Sephora's fall VIB sale and bought two lip masks to try: Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask and Kiehl's Buttermask. I tried each mask once a week for two weeks straight to see what the results would be. Scroll down to see how they compare!

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask vs Kiehl's Buttermask

Kiehl's Buttermask - Size: 8g, $24

I love the size of the Kiehl's Buttermask. It's an easy product to travel with, especially since I go back to visit my parents pretty often during the Holidays. I can easily throw this in my bag and not worry about the amount of space it is taking up. The price is about $3 per gram, which is pretty steep compared to Laneige's $1 per gram.

When I opened the jar, I noticed that the lip mask looked very hard. I think it has to do with the coconut oil in the formula, which can easily harden. It was tough to get a lot of product on my finger to put on my lips. I had to dip my finger in twice to get enough product to cover my lips fully. My lips don't feel super hydrated when I was wearing the mask, but when I sleep with it overnight, my lips feel amazingly soft the next morning. I wash it off, apply lip balm and then lipstick and I'm out the door on my way to work. My lips do feel hydrated all day long - no re-application of lip balm necessary! The once a week overnight lip mask works for me, but I may have to use it more often when winter hits.

Kiehl's Buttermask

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask - Size20g, $20

I've heard a lot of things about Laneige, but I've only ever tried one product from them. I'm excited to explore more from this line as a few of my friends LOVE this brand. The Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is 2.5x bigger than Kiehl's Buttermask and is $4 cheaper. It is quite sizable - I can't just put it in my pocket, but it is still travel friendly. I do like how an applicator is included (along with a pouch!). I don't like dipping my finger in product because bacteria can get in the product and plus, I have to clean my finger.

When I opened the jar, this lip mask looks much smoother than the Kiehl's one. It was so easy to scoop the product out with the applicator. The product is so soft, it feel like butter, it just melts onto your lips so nicely. My lips felt great after I applied the product on. I was surprised - since it's specifically a "sleeping mask", I didn't expect any instant results. The next morning, my lips still felt supple and soft. I had the same experience as the Kiehl's Buttermask - I didn't feel my lips dry out throughout the day and I didn't need to reapply lip balm.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Overall, I like both products, but Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask beats Kiehl's Buttermask. The quality and price of the Laniege Lip Mask makes it the winner. The lip mask itself is so soft and easy to apply. Results are pretty similar, so why wouldn't I go for the product that gives me 2.5x more for the same price and an applicator with a pouch?
