How To Update Your Closet For Fall

8:30 AM

Fall is just around the corner! Can you believe it? It feels like summer just started yesterday, but that's just how fast time is flying. As we transition to colder weather and earlier sunsets, we should be adjusting our closets accordingly. It seems impossible to transition our light, airy summer clothes to become fall appropriate, but there are a few tips and tricks to get you started. Let's take a look:

How To Update Your Closet For Fall

1. Scarves

One of the great ways to start transitioning your closet for fall is with scarves. There is a wide range of scarves out there - from light, airy material to thick, blanket-like scarves. Since the weather in fall varies a lot, start with a thinner scarf as an accessory. Drape it over a t-shirt with jeans. As the weather becomes cooler, transition into bigger and heavier scarves that can help you keep warm in addition to looking stylish.

2. Tights

Summer dresses don't always mean they're just for summer. I have a ton of floral dresses in my closet that can easily be worn for fall. Most patterns/colors can work all year round - but one thing I like to add to the outfit is tights. Fall is known for chilly winds, especially late in the season. Tights help to keep my legs warm, while allowing me to still wear dresses. This maximizes the amount of time I can wear my clothes in a year, instead of just limiting it to three months (one season).

3. Layers, layers, layers!

Finally, the best way to transition your closet to fall is through layers. Many summer clothes can still be worn in autumn, but would be best with other layers for warmth. Cardigans, light jackets, leg warmers, etc. are all great items to throw over your existing outfit.
