Top 5 Things To Do in Phuket

8:30 AM

Thailand is such a beautiful country - with a lot to do, see and eat! My fiance and I found a flight deal to Phuket with Emirates for just $750 round trip per person. Being on the east coast, this is a fantastic deal, with an amazing airline no less. When we saw the deal, we knew we had to go. It was our first trip to Asia together and we had a blast. Phuket is a huge province so we put together a list of 5 must-do things while there. Let's have a look....
Top 5 Things To Do in Phuket
1. Excursion to Phang Nga Bay and/or Koh Phi Phi

I say and/or, but I really mean and. I was so excited when I went on my excursion to Phang Nga Bay. They really take you all over the area. First, we stopped by the Ice Cream Cave and hiked through the very damp cave. It was so interesting to see the different rock formations and the ice cream rock formation that gave the cave its' name. Then we went kayaking around Phang Nga Bay, where we got to see James Bond island. To end the day, we head to Naka Island and relaxed on the beach with a beautiful view. If you go to Thailand, you have to sign up for the 1 day excursion to Phang Nga Bay.

I wish I was able to go to Koh Phi Phi, but the trip was cancelled due to the heavy rain and we couldn't reschedule because we leave the next morning. I hear it's a beautiful island and it has the best beaches!

2. Paradise Beach

Paradise beach is by far the most beautiful beach I've ever been to. The vivid blue water and soft sand make this beach a must visit. The best time to come is in the morning - it's very quiet so you get the view all to yourself. Starting at noon, the shops open up and the EDM music starts blasting. It turns into a big party beach at night.
What most people don't realize about Paradise Beach is that there's a hidden walkway to the left near the hill. It leads to another section (a smaller section) of the beach that's very secluded. But the sand here is so soft and there's no rocks in the water either. The water looks even more beautiful here. There's limited space so make sure you get here before everyone else does!

Paradise Beach has a lot hills. You can go hiking on these hills and see even more beautiful views.

3. Big Buddha

What a sight to see! Big Buddha is 25 meters wide and 45 meters tall. It's made of concrete and white jade marble, which glistens beautifully in the sun. What's even more impressive than the statue itself is the incredible panoramic views of Phuket you see.
One thing to keep in mind is dress code. The Big Buddha is a religious site, so be respectful and dress appropriately otherwise you will be asked to leave. Cover your shoulders and try to wear dress or pants that go to your knees. Whatever you do, do not go in with only your bathing suit!

4. Thai Cooking Class

I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this. If you like Thai food, take a cooking class while in Phuket. They have classes in English and they teach you how to make around 2-3 dishes. What's great is that you'll make each dish for yourself. I've taken cooking classes in the US where they have 5 dishes, but they divide the class into teams and each team makes 1 dish. I much prefer to learn all the dishes so I can re-create them at home.

5. Wat Chalong

Wat in Thai means temple - so you're going to Chalong Temple. I highly recommend visiting even if you're not Buddhist. The temples are so colorful and so ornate unlike other temples or churches I've seen. They truly are a work of art!

Well, this wraps up my top 5 things to do in Phuket! Hope you enjoyed it and consider these activities when you go. Let me know in the comments if you've done this before!
