Changing Your Skincare Routine for Fall8:30 AM
Every season brings new challenges to your skin. Every few months, you should relook at the skincare products you use and determine if they're worth keeping. If it won't help you during the season, put it away. You don't want to overload your routine with a bunch of products that your skin doesn't need. Let's take a look at what's needed for the cooler season ahead of us:
There are two keepers on my list: primer and SPF lotion. Primer is great for any season. It's an essential during the summer because it keeps your foundation intact and diminishes pores. What I really like about primers is that it creates a barrier between your skin and your foundation/makeup. I don't want my foundation or my makeup to start absorbing into my skin; primers add a layer in between to keep makeup where it is - on the surface.
SPF is another great product to use for fall. Though the weather isn't as hot, the UV index is still high, so you want to make sure that you're staying protected. I would downgrade the SPF used from like a 30+ to a 15+.
As the weather gets colder, skin gets drier and requires more attention. Facial oils and serums are something to consider adding to your routine. Oils are great for hydrating the skin, especially in the tough spots like elbows, knees and for me, cheeks. If you get a multipurpose oil, they can be great for keeping your scalp healthy as well.
Serums are great as well (and what I prefer to use for hydration). It absorbs much better into the skin. If you feel like your skincare product isn't working effectively, apply a serum on your face first and then the product over it. The serum will help the skincare products penetrate deeper into the skin, improving the results you see.
Another way to use serums is to convert powders to liquids. For example, I love using Studio Gear's Dual Identity Mineral Foundation. During the summer, I use it as a powder foundation. But as the months get colder and my skin gets dryer, I like to mix it in with their Revitalizing Day Serum to create a sheer to medium liquid foundation. This way I don't have to switch from a powder to a liquid foundation every 6 months. I can keep using my favorite foundation all year long. There are other fun ways to wear this foundation, learn more here.
